10 Tips on Content Creation for Beginners
It can be difficult to create compelling content as a beginner. This can lead to feeling overwhelmed, confused and worried about the unknown. These feelings can often prevent you from getting started or even from continuing with your content creation journey!
Creating content is a skill that can be learned and improved with practice, but with the right tips and tricks, anyone can start producing quality content. Having these skills can also help open doors within your personal life as a business and entrepreneurship. So what are some of the first things to keep in mind?
Stand out from the Crowd
Since there are thousands of content creators out there, you often need to be unique to stand out from the rest. Finding your voice will help you create content that is true to who you are. Take the time to think about what interests you the most and what problems you're passionate about solving.
Everyone, no matter who they are – has a unique voice, even if finding it can be something of a challenge. Once found, this will allow you to be consistent and true to who you are with minimal effort. For example, are you a friendly, casual, or professional individual? Finding your voice can help you be passionate in your content, since your passion will be evident in your work.
Be Knowledgeable in Your Niche
While passion is an important component in creating great content, you can't simply "create" great content. You need to have something to say that's valuable and useful to others. In order to come up with creative ideas that are original, you need to do your research and know what's going on in your industry and in your local community. This will also help you stay relevant and keep your audience engaged.
Creating useful content allows you to stand out and position yourself as an expert in your field. This helps you become known and respected in your community. The more people know about you, the more opportunities you will have to promote yourself and your business.
Understand Your Audience
Besides being knowledgeable in your niche you'll also need to understand your audience so your content can resonate with your target demographic in a successful way.
Identify what is the best platform to post your content on and use social media to position yourself as an expert in your niche. Post content about topics that are relevant to your target audience and interact with them by sharing relevant information and promoting your business on your social media profiles.
Explore Trends in Your Niche
It's important for you to stay up-to-date on the latest trends happening in your niche so that you can create content that's relevant to your fans and followers. Identifying current trends allows you to produce quality content that your followers will find interesting and helpful.
An example would be noticing the rise of video content on social media on platforms such as TikTok and Instagram shorts. Even seasonal trends like Easter and valentines day are topics that will help you gauge what content to create. You can identify trends by researching online sites like Google Trends or Reddit to find out what is popular right now among others.
Find a Good Headline
A good headline should tell the reader what they are going to get out of the post while also engaging them enough to click through and read the post itself - it is important to take the time to craft a catchy yet informative title that makes people want to read the post. Here are a few tips:
- Asking a question is a great way to engage readers and get them interested in reading your post!
- Make sure your headline is short, descriptive, clear, concise and attention-grabbing.
- Add numbers and symbols to make things more readable or to help with post content.
- These are a few examples though you should look to do your own research in order to find what works best for you.
Create Quality, Not Quantity
A great post whether that's written, images or video content comes from making it unique and interesting to your target audience. Visual elements such as media (images & videos) are useful for attracting people’s attention and will diversify your content which you may be able to re-post on multiple platforms, as the saying goes - a picture is worth a thousand words!
Research and find topics that your audience would want to see and interact with and make a plan for what you want to achieve before getting started so you have enough time to refine your post multiple times before posting.
Have Variety in Your Content
The key to any successful content creator is to post a variety of content, this means you will have to reach outside your comfort zone every once in a while and try new content formats, whilst not straying too far from the topics and themes you are already familiar with.
For example, I could be creating blog posts on a consistent basis every week on a Monday but for the sake of my audience’s interest I would include a short video once a week as well as a blog post to give an extra dimension to the content I am creating. This will allow yourself to learn new skills, and potentially grow your following with a wider variety of posts.
- Blog posts, Articles & Guides
- Videos, Interviews & Podcasts
- Infographics, Gifs & Memes
- Case studies, Product reviews & Giveaways
- Polls, Newsletters & Announcements
Engage with your Audience
As you begin to post content you'll more than likely have people engaging with the topics you're posting about. It is important to engage with your audience as much as possible as this will show your appreciation for the time and thoughts that they have given to your post.
- Answer questions and respond to comments to show that you care and appreciate feedback.
- Share other people's work and ask them to do the same for you.
- Tag people in photos or share your tips on social media using #hashtags so that others can find your content more easily.
- Say Thank You to those who take the time to comment and/or like your work.
- Ask your followers questions about themselves and their interests and encourage them to continue sharing their thoughts and ideas with you and others.
Create a Social Media (Content) Calendar
Spend some time to make a list of topics you want to post about on a regular basis, including headings and subheadings. Then think about what media you want to use for each topic so you know what images and graphics need to be created and how you need to structure your posts.
Calendaring content will help you stay on track with regular content and also help you plan out what content you want to post in the future so you have a good plan to keep your social media accounts active, relevant and helpful for your followers.
Be Consistent with Content
One of the main keys to maintaining a successful social media account or website is to be consistent in what you post and how often you post. This will give your followers and viewers a chance to become familiar with you and the content you share, which will help build a stronger relationship with your audience over time.
Creating a set of guidelines around your content will help you keep a consistent look and feel to your brand, as well as keeping your posts organized and meaningful for your audience.
Try to follow a schedule of posting with all of the key points above including incorporating this into your calendar for success. Be persistent on your vision and make sure you keep yourself focused day to day to create the best content and experience for your audience.
These ten tips will provide you with a strong foundation in your journey to create rich online content and build a healthy relationship with your community. For more advice on becoming a prevelant influencer check out our blog here.
